World Sustainability Organization introduces sustainable cosmetics certification in Ghana.

The World Sustainability Organization (WSO), a leading international sustainability certification body, has introduced its Sustainable Cosmetics Certification to Ghana’s beauty and personal care industry through its collaboration with Ghanaian business development firm, Fort Group Ghana. Ghana’s beauty and personal care industry is expanding rapidly, with retail value sales growing by 11% to reach GHS 3,556 million annually. In the same vein, Ghana has aggressively converted raw production into processed components, increasing its global share of the international shea export market to 5.1% according to Euromonitor and GMI Research.

The Sustainable Cosmetics Certification promotes responsible sourcing of natural ingredients, protection of ecosystems and biodiversity, fair and transparent supply chains, environmentally responsible manufacturing processes, reduced carbon footprint, sustainable packaging solutions, and respect for workers’ rights and local communities.

For cosmetic brands, WSO certification provides an independent, internationally credible verification of their sustainability commitments. It enhances consumer trust, strengthens brand reputation, improves market access, and aligns businesses with evolving global sustainability expectations. For consumers, it offers confidence that certified products contribute positively to people and the planet without compromising quality or performance.

Through the certification, cosmetic companies can strengthen consumer trust, improve international market competitiveness, and demonstrate their commitment to protecting biodiversity, supporting local communities, and reducing their environmental footprint while promoting responsible innovation across Ghana’s growing beauty industry. Driven by consumer demand for health, safety, and ethical sourcing, Ghana’s organic and natural beauty segment outpaced the conventional market with an annual growth rate exceeding 9%.

As global demand for clean, ethical, and environmentally responsible beauty products continues to rise, sustainable cosmetics are becoming increasingly important to consumers seeking credible sustainability commitments from the brands they support. According to regional supply chain data tracked by the West Africa Competitiveness Programme (WACOMP), 26.6% of target consumers now rank “natural and organic” as the primary decisive feature when purchasing personal care products.

This certification is available to cosmetics manufacturers, skincare brands, personal care producers, and beauty companies that demonstrate responsible sourcing of natural ingredients, environmentally sustainable production processes, ethical supply chains, and sustainable packaging.

By introducing sustainable cosmetics certification in Ghana, WSO seeks to support manufacturers, exporters, retailers, and consumers in building a beauty industry that values environmental stewardship, social responsibility, and long-term economic resilience. This further presents a unique opportunity to position Ghana as a leader in sustainable cosmetic production.
